I grew up in Monterey County where I attended elementary, middle, and high school in Salinas, California. I personally started studying percussion by the age of 5, gaining the basics of pulse acquisition, music notation, technique, etc. I eventually participated in the music programs in elementary school at the earliest grade possible at Mission Park Elementary School, then continued music at Gavilan View Middle School, and Salinas High School. While I was a student at Salinas High School, I was percussion section leader by my junior year and was highly involved in the county honor groups. For example, I earned my position with the Monterey Jazz Festival All-Star Band in which we toured to Japan my junior year and Missouri my senior year of high school, in addition to me performing at the Next Generation Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, and Monterey Blues Festival.
After I graduated high school, I attended college for music and ended up teaching music at Salinas High School for 8 years. As band director and composer at Salinas High School, the marching band competed in the Western Band Association, as well as competed in both concert and marching percussion ensemble categories (Nor Cal Percussion Alliance and CCGC) earning first and second placements in our category with my original compositions/arrangements. Most recently in 2025, one of my composing clients in California received first place at the NCPA Championships in Stockton, CA for BOTH of their groups. While they received first place, their highest scores were in the 'music-composition' category, of which consisted of my compositions. Additionally, that same percussion ensemble will be performing at DCI Stanford 2025 with my original music and percussion arrangements.
I earned my Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degree in Music Education from San Jose State University, with my classical percussion studies under the guidance of Galen Lemmon, Principal Percussionist for Symphony San Jose. During my undergrad, I earned first place in California’s PAS competitive festival’s collegiate drum set category and second place in the collegiate snare drum category.
I have been playing my instrument for over 20 years, teaching private music lessons for 15 years, and I love composing music, coaching marching band, talking about music--you get it.
